Developing a Strategy to Counter Extremist Ideologies

IFPA completed and distributed this summary report on a January 2007 workshop entitled Rethinking the War on Terror: Developing a Strategy to Counter Extremist Ideologies, which was organized in support of USCENTCOM. As the title suggests, this workshop focused on assessing the ideological roots of Islamist extremism and on ways in which such ideologies can be more effectively countered. Attendees included a number of top non-governmental scholars on various aspects of Islamic extremism, as well as USCENTCOM Deputy Commander VADM Dave Nichols, USN, other senior command representatives, and a select number of ranking U.S. government interagency officials.
