Security Issues in the Middle East
March 2002

The March 2002 Security Issues in the Middle East quarterly report explores how the Bush administration's war on terrorism and the ongoing conflict in Israel have affected and continue to affect the political landscape of the region. Six months after the terrorist attacks in the United States and eighteen months

after the start of the Al Aqsa intifada, ongoing violence, and political reactions to it, continue to shape the Middle East. The report maintains that this will be the case for at least the next year, and that the political changes that follow the violence may be much more significant than has been the case in the last year and a half. Indeed, the politics of the region may change more in the next two years than at any time since the late 1970s.
