Mr. David Szabo
Mr. Szabo is a research associate in IFPA’s Washington, D.C., office since 2005. His research interests include NATO, counterproliferation and WMD deterrence.
At IFPA, David has researched and contributed to reports on the future of U.S. defense and deterrence planning, illicit non-state WMD proliferation patterns, U.S. policy on reversing proliferation and NATO’s nuclear basing structure. He also has investigated the ideological aspects of the conflict with Islamist extremism, the threat of terrorist use of WMD and the impact of suicide terrorist organizations on U.S. security and military operations.
Before joining IFPA, David was a State Alumni Coordinator at the U.S. Department of State. As a member of a new and growing State Department office, he helped coordinate the enlargement and outreach effort to reach U.S.-funded exchange program alumni through the Internet.
David earned a B.A. in international relations and history from Syracuse University and an M.A. in security studies from the Georgetown University Walsh School of Foreign Service, with a Master’s thesis on “Deterring WMD Use During the 1990-91 Persian Gulf Crisis.”
