Research Associate Positions
Opening for Research Associate in Cambridge, MA, Office (as of December 2012)
IFPA is accepting applications for an immediate full-time research associate in the national/international security affairs field, to be based in its Cambridge, Massachusetts, office. Primary responsibilities include research and project support to senior staff members, assisting in proposal development, developing policy briefings, drafting conference summary reports, and preparing original papers on a range of foreign and defense policy issues. Secondary responsibilities include administrative/logistical support for the planning and execution of subject-related workshops, seminars, and conferences. Applicants must possess superior research, writing, and analytic skills. They must also be U.S. citizens and either hold a current security clearance or be eligible to apply for one.
Applicants should have at least an MA in international affairs, or the equivalent, with a strong background in security studies. Congressional, military, or other governmental experience (e.g., DoD or State) useful, but not required. Foreign language skills and previous experience with proposal writing for foundation grants and government contracts are also advantageous. Understanding of (and interest in) both the military operational and strategic policy aspects of defense planning is desirable. Regional knowledge would also be useful, for example, in Europe, East Asia, or the Middle East. Applicants must be capable of learning new issue areas quickly and be highly motivated, self-directed, and able to work with a minimum of supervision to tight deadlines.
