IFPA Summer Intern Positions

The Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis (IFPA) will accept applications from March 2 - 13, 2009 for summer 2009 internships in its Cambridge, Massachusetts office. Primary intern responsibilities include research support to senior staff members; developing policy briefings; drafting conference summary reports; and preparing original papers on a range of foreign and defense policy issues. Secondary responsibilities include administrative support for the planning and execution of subject-related workshops, seminars, and conferences.

Applicants must possess superior research, writing, and analytic skills. They should also have an MA in international affairs, the equivalent, or be enrolled in a graduate school program leading to an MA. Applicants should have a strong background in security studies. Understanding of both the military operational and policy aspects of defense planning is essential. Regional knowledge such as the Asia-Pacific area or the Middle East would also be useful. Applicants must be capable of learning new issue areas quickly and be highly motivated, self-directed, and able to work with a minimum of supervision to tight deadlines.

The Institute does not offer academic credit for its internships. The internship generally runs from early June to late August. These paid internships are a full-time, 40-hour/week commitment. The internship might lead to permanent employment at IFPA, depending on the Institute’s workload.
